The aim of the Level 4 Digital Learning Design diploma is to train learners, that are passionate about technology enhanced learning, to create engaging digital learning content. In addition, the qualification aims to give learners all the skills they need to fulfill the role of a 'Digital Learning Designer'. The skills required by a Digital Learning Designer cut across a number of subject specialisms and the units below bring together all these skills and count towards a single qualification.
The delivery of these units at Sparsholt College and the features of this diploma give you huge flexibility in how, where and when you study. These units are delivered 100% online with access to a personal tutor, online help and opportunities for collaboration. Furthermore, unit certification is available for each unit which is offered throughout the year and evidence for each unit can be generated from a wide range of organisational contexts allowing you to undertake units that best suit you and meet the needs of your specific occupational requirements.
Click on the drop down arrows below to find out more about the units being delivered at Sparsholt college and please email: digitallearningdesign@sparsholt.ac.uk if you are interested undertaking any of these units.
Digital Learning Lifecycle
The aim of this unit is to teach learners how to use project planning and management techniques to manage digital learning projects to their conclusion. They will understand how project management techniques can benefit individuals and organisations and be able to evaluate projects at their conclusion using both quantitative and qualitative techniques. The unit will encourage learners to identify and resolve potential accessibility issues.
Importantly this unit will teach learners how to analyse the results of digital learning projects to identify issues or trends, and offer insights, that could be relevant for subsequent developments. Learners will be shown how to use published learning theory to inform this analysis.
Managing Communications
The aim of this unit is to teach learners how to direct their communication skills towards the creation of digital learning designs. Digital learning designs can be conceptualised as a synthesis of technical knowledge and content knowledge which is empowered by an understanding of the ways people learn. Each of these knowledge specialisms has its own history of development and to an extent uses individual concepts and languages. An effective digital learning designer needs to be able to translate across those knowledge specialisms, so advanced communication skills are very important.
This unit will not only give learners an opportunity to study communication techniques but will direct them towards these techniques to analyse requirements and produce and evaluate effective digital learning design specifications. Learners will be encouraged to evaluate final specifications in a rounded way by looking at a variety of dimensions, for example accessibility, enhanced learning or economics
Science of Learning and Design Unit
The aim of this unit is to investigate a range of key scientific developments in cognitive psychology, neuroscience and computer science which have relevance to learning and design. This is designed to support decision making in the learning design process by using the latest areas of key scientific research.
From undertaking this unit you will be able to use eportfolios as a reflective journal of your learning in a tool such as Mahara:
Digital Assessment Design Unit
This unit introduces learners to pedagogical theories of assessment and a range of digital assessment tools. Learners completing this unit will learn how to evaluate assessment tools and use them to create online assessment activities.
From completing this unit you will be able to create summative and formative assessments using many tools such as these:
