Introduction
On this web page I will look at what physical activity is and what can happen when you don't do enough or do the recommended daily exercise.
What is physical activity?
Physical activity simply means movement of the body that uses energy. Walking, gardening, briskly pushing a baby stroller, climbing the stairs, playing soccer, or dancing the night away are all good examples of being active. For health benefits, physical activity should be moderate or vigorous intensity.
Personal attributes
Gender
religion- This can stop you from staying on a tight diet such as a Muslim does Ramadan for a month. Also some religions may stop you from doing some physical activities.
Age
weight- This means that you maybe held back from doing too much because your body wouldn't be able to cope with it and only able to do little amounts before it gets tiring. equally you could have asthma which can stop you from performing for long periods of time without needing an inhaler.
Abilities
Injury/illness- An injury can stop from performing such as a broken foot will stop you from doing any leg based activities such as football. Also an illness will stop you from doing something because it can restrict you from breathing properly or make you feel like you don't want to do it.
environment characteristics
transport- This means that you may not have the resources to get to the place where the event is taking place and it will restrict you from doing that activity.
media- The media can make an activity look good or bad and this can change peoples opinions about the activity as a whole and will stop someone from performing in the activity.
sporting events
facilities- they may not be the facilities in your area to take part in a certain activity such as swimming and this means you cant take part in the activity without travelling a distance to do so.

Problems with inactivity
Lack of physical activity has clearly been shown to be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and other conditions:
-
Less active, less fit persons have a greater risk of developing high blood pressure.
-
Studies indicate that physically active people are less likely to develop coronary heart disease than those who are inactive--even after the researchers accounted for smoking, alcohol use, and diet.
-
Lack of physical activity can contribute to feelings of anxiety and depression.
-
Physical inactivity may increase the risk of certain cancers.
-
Physically active overweight or obese people significantly reduced their risk for disease with physical activity.
features of P.A
time- you need to be doing 30 minutes of exercise each day and you may not be able to get the time to do this because you have work or other commitments that can stop you from doing such activities.
frequency- you may not be able to take part in an activity like going to the gym frequently because you have other commitments such as work or looking after your children and this can restrict from doing the activity frequently.
intensity- you maybe restricted from doing high intensity activities because of your weight or ability because your body wouldn't be able to cope with the work load. A more fit person will be able to perform at a high intensity for longer than someone who is overweight.

Positives about exercise
No. 1: Exercise controls weight
Exercise can help prevent excess weight gain or help maintain weight loss. When you engage in physical activity, you burn calories. The more intense the activity, the more calories you burn. You don't need to set aside large chunks of time for exercise to reap weight-loss benefits. If you can't do an actual workout, get more active throughout the day in simple ways — by taking the stairs instead of the elevator or revving up your household chores.
No. 2: Exercise combats health conditions and diseases
Worried about heart disease? Hoping to prevent high blood pressure? No matter what your current weight, being active boosts high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or "good," cholesterol and decreases unhealthy triglycerides. This one-two punch keeps your blood flowing smoothly, which decreases your risk of cardiovascular diseases. In fact, regular physical activity can help you prevent or manage a wide range of health problems and concerns, including stroke, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, depression, certain types of cancer, arthritis and falls.
No. 3: Exercise improves mood
Need an emotional lift? Or need to blow off some steam after a stressful day? A workout at the gym or a brisk 30-minute walk can help. Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. You may also feel better about your appearance and yourself when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem.
No. 4: Exercise boosts energy
Winded by grocery shopping or household chores? Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance. Exercise and physical activity deliver oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and help your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. And when your heart and lungs work more efficiently, you have more energy to go about your daily chores.
